Hello members and friends,
We returned from a wonderful weekend of shooting with our Eagle Cap friends at the Rendezvous at the River (RATR) in the LaGrande, Oregon area along the Grand Ronde river. Quite a few Idaho folks made the trip from the southeastern part of the state to enjoy the beautiful scenery, camaraderie, and friendly competition of the archery community. A few arrows were lost to the river, but some were rescued by quick, fearless archers chasing them as they floated downstream!
The same weekend John Warford returned from his trip to northern Idaho where he joined with the North Idaho Traditional Father’s Day gathering, which was a big success with over 170 shooters participating from all over the north country.
This weekend, June 21, volunteers will gather on the Osborn Ranch in New Meadows to do some mowing and weed trimming to prep the campsites and parking areas, and check the target courses at the site of the upcoming Meadows Valley Traditional Rendezvous. Plans are to set up the big wall tents and get the target trailer situated for the shoot the next weekend on June 27-29. Lunch will be provided for the volunteers. Please show up at 9amMST, rain or shine!
Meadows Valley Shoot is scheduled to be underway on Friday, June 27. A few volunteers and campers can show up on Thursday if needed. The porta potties are going to be delivered on Thursday. Darel and Christopher will be setting up two moving targets. Other volunteers are needed to help set up the target courses starting on Friday. Mark Wood sold his little flat trailer, so we could use another trailer to drive the courses with the targets. Dave and Lisa Hall are graciously sharing theirs with us. Don Schroeder and sons will be setting the Bowhunter’s Challenge course. Volunteers are needed for help with registration and novelty shoots, so please let me know if you can lend a hand!
Check out the website for Meadows Valley shoot information, directions and cost. Please bring a raffle prize to donate and a blanket prize to participate in the Blanket Shoot. Schedule for the shoot will be Friday Flashlight Shoot, Saturday Registration 8:30am, Kids Competition, Blanket shoot and Bowhunter Challenge cards obtained at registration and shot until 1pm on Sunday. Novelty Shoots 2pm, Target Auction Saturday 7pm, Sunday Registration 8:30am close at noon. All shoot cards need to be totaled and turned in at 1pm. Awards at 2pm. Target course pickup at 3pm.
This is YOUR club! Please pitch in to help us make this a great shoot! Other news: Riley Savage carried the new block targets to RATR and we brought them home, so they will be available for this shoot. Cost to the club $721.29The club got a check in the mail for our share of the profits from the Expo for $416.99. I do think the Expo is a wonderful opportunity for vendors and members to gather in the winter and be reminded of why we love archery and hunting and what a great group of folks with which we share a common bond. We are already making plans for next year, so put it on your calendars for Northwest Traditional Archery Expo on Valentine’s Day weekend of February 14, 2026.
The target thrower has returned from the manufacturer with the glitch fixed and will be ready for New Meadows. Hopefully, we will get a chance to try it out on the New Meadows cleanup day and the Meadows Valley shoot. Wayne Stutzman got the club a deal on the cost and we’re waiting to hear from him the final bill so we can get him paid. Insurance policy is renewed with a bill of $1900.00 for shoot liability, the target trailer and the trailer contents insured for the year, coming due in July.
That’s all for now, more to come…Call or text if you have questions, suggestions or want to volunteer!I hope to see many of you soon!
Regards, Janet Houlihan
