Meadows Valley Rendezvous & Other Club News

Hello Traditional Archers and Bowhunters!

Many of us are going in different directions this coming weekend, so our monthly meeting information will be summarized here instead of our usual Zoom gathering.

We are headed to LaGrande for the Oregon Rendezvous on the River on Thursday. Riley Savage is bringing the new big block shooter targets and I will pick them up and pay him for them, approximately $750. We’ll have them for the Meadows Valley Shoot.

Vice President, Shawn Carman will be home this weekend cheering on Landon, the baseball phenom competing in the Meridian Dairy Days Baseball Tournament. Shawn will bring samples of the new sweatshirts to New Meadows for display and preorders.

Financial report for the month is a bank balance of $10,675.43. Current expenses were: postage ($5.40), raffle prize ($107.17) for WSTR, Quickbooks subscription ($17.50). Upcoming expenses will be the target thrower, the block targets, porta potties for NMTR, lunch for the campsite cleanup crew June 21, camping fee for Ed Olson, raffle for North Idaho shoot ($100) and probably other miscellaneous items. Insurance comes due in July and will be approximately $1900.00 for complete coverage.

Our Director at Large Mike Schlegel reported on ITB club concerns regarding proposed sale of public lands and it was agreed we need to query members on this issue before we put out a club statement regarding the sale of public lands.

John and Kathy Warford are heading north today to carry the banner for ITB to the Extreme North Idaho Father’s Day shoot at Moyie Springs. ITB supports this event by covering the insurance costs and donating to their amazing raffle. The site of the shoot is the same area that we hosted Western States at last spring. It’s a fabulous area for camping and shooting and will hopefully draw a big crowd of shooters from all over the northern region. I wish we could be there!

Upcoming on Saturday, June 21, at 9amMST is the site prep time for the Meadows Valley Traditional Rendezvous. Dave and Lisa Hall will be bringing up the target trailer so we can get the wall tents set up and get the registration supplies inventoried and ready for the coming weekend. John Warford, the volunteer target coordinator, will be spearheading the target placement organization, with Thom Tash, the target master helping identify the targets for auction on Saturday evening of the NMTR shoot.

We need volunteers with big mowers, weed-whackers, and loppers to clear grass and brush in camping areas and the trails for the courses in the forest. Lunch will be provided for helpers! Upcoming on the following weekend of Friday through Sunday, June 27-29, is the annual Meadows Valley Traditional Rendezvous!!

Volunteers can arrive Thursday to set up their camps and also begin the preliminary target setup, flagging the courses and the targets. See the flyer on our website for details and directions to the shoot. Please be sure to bring a raffle prize for our raffle and a blanket prize to enter the blanket shoot. This shoot is our premier summer shoot, happening while the grass is still green, the flowers are blooming and the no-see-ums haven’t hatched yet! It’s located on a beautiful private ranch above the Meadows Valley with gorgeous views of the valley and trails that wind into the forest for our 3D targets to be set in cool, mostly shaded spots. Don Schroeder and sons, Kevin and James, will be setting up the Bowhunter Challenge course for those of you who want to experience extra difficulty in shooting options. I’m hoping also for some moving targets but haven’t heard yet from Darel and Christopher…

More information to follow as we draw closer to the event. Please feel free to call, text or email me with ideas, suggestions, or concerns.

Best regards and happy shooting!  Janet Houlihan

Idaho Traditional Bowhunters (ITB) was founded in 1988 by John Turner and friends. ITB’s envisioned the need to promote traditional bowhunting, and raise awareness of the growing number of Idaho hunters who choose to hunt with traditional equipment. ITB has helped promote and develop some of the best state bowhunting regulations in the U.S. We hope to begin chasing a traditional only season
