Spring Fling 2026 RECAP

Just one week ago, nearly 15 volunteers came together to help set up the course for the 2026 Spring Fling Two Day Archery Shoot in New Plymouth, Idaho.

As we all know, spring weather in Idaho can change in an instant, but this particular weekend couldn’t have been better. The mornings had just enough chill to make the fire extra cozy, and as the sun climbed higher, the temperatures rose right along with it, making for a beautiful weekend on the course.

A special thank you goes out to Dave & Lisa Hall for delivering the trailer to the shoot site and for providing the ATV used to haul targets out onto the course. Your continued support plays a huge role in making events like this possible.

Thank you to everyone who helped set up the course, carry targets, set stakes, tie trail ribbons, pitch the canvas tent, handling registration, memberships, and sales. Then, after all of that, many of you came back on Sunday to load everything back into the trailer.

That kind of dedication is what makes this organization so special. Your hard work, time, and willingness to serve do not go unnoticed and this event simply wouldn’t happen without you.

Thank you again to all of our hard working volunteers:

Thom Tash, Pat Lopez, Milton Berggren, Ryan Carman, Quinn Carman, Landon Carman, Wayne Stutzman, Jack Wassard, Matt Garner, Wyatt Garner, Barrett Garner, Chuck (I missed your last name), Sara Martin, Kimber Martin, Alister Martin, Randi Walkins, Austin Walkins, Noah Walkins, Eli Walkins, Berkely Oversbury, Janet Houlihan, Luke Portieles & John Portieles.

If I missed writing down your name as a volunteer, send me a message letting me know, you deserve to be recognized and added to the this list too.

This was the first time this event was held as a two day shoot, after being a one day event in years past. On Saturday alone, we welcomed 88 shooters, including 16 youth participants and on Sunday we hosted nearly 30 more shooters. Awards were presented on Saturday to the youth shooters who turned in a score card, and we are excited to recognize the following winners and their scores:

PeeWee (6 & Under):
1st Place: Garrett Alvis – 91
2nd Place: Alex Portieles – 76
3rd Place: Merrich McDaniel – 39

Cub (7-10):
1st Place: Landon Carman – 169
2nd Place: Wyatt Floyd – 160
3rd Place: John Portieles – 149

Youth (11-13):
1st Place: Zander Ferringno – 79
2nd Place: Kimber Martin – 75
3rd Place: Barrett Garner – 72

Young Adult: (14-18)
1st Place: Drake Oxnam – 223
2nd Place: Wyatt Garner – 185
3rd Place: Landon Oxnam – 166

While not every youth shooter who posted a score took home a medal, every participant left with a prize from our prize bucket, making each and every one of them a winner.

New this year was the addition of Target Sponsors!

If you walked the course, you may have noticed custom sponsor signs displayed at 14 of our 25 targets. These signs represent individuals and businesses in our community who have chosen to support our organization financially, and we are incredibly grateful for their generosity.

Our Target Sponsors play an important role in helping keep our events strong and our equipment in great shape. The money raised through target sponsorships will go directly toward replacing old and worn-out targets or inserts at the end of the year.

If you see one of these sponsor signs at our events, please take a moment to thank that sponsor, whether in person or by supporting their business in return. Their support helps make what we do possible.

If you or someone you know would be interested in sponsoring a target, or would like to learn more, please email us at idtradbow@gmail.com and we’d be happy to share the details. All of our sponsors will be on display again at the Meadows Valley Traditional Rendezvous in June and on our website.

Lastly, we signed up 24 Annual memberships while at the shoot (58 total members for the year): one of which is a new Lifetime Member. Please welcome new lifetime member Rowan Fernandez (age 10) – we are thrilled to have you as our youngest Lifetime Member!

If you ever find yourself wondering if you are a current member of ITB, do not hesitate to reach out to us and ask or scroll to the bottom of our Membership Page on the website to see if you name is listed as a current or Lifetime Member.

Why Become a Member? What better chance to get into an organization and help mold our destiny as traditional bowhunters.

As we gain membership we gain recognition in the community. As we grow in membership we grow as an extended family, forging new friendships, finding new hunting partners, and protecting our sport for the next generation.

Idaho Traditional Bowhunters (ITB) was founded in 1988 by John Turner and friends. ITB’s envisioned the need to promote traditional bowhunting, and raise awareness of the growing number of Idaho hunters who choose to hunt with traditional equipment. ITB has helped promote and develop some of the best state bowhunting regulations in the U.S. We hope to begin chasing a traditional only season
